In 2021, Selah Kelsey-Weyers reached out to the Joshua Generation Foundation with a heartfelt request. She dreamed of studying Psychology in South Africa and needed financial support to make it a reality. What began as a simple inquiry soon turned into a life-changing opportunity. The foundation responded with open arms and offered her the support she needed to begin her academic journey. Three years later, Selah has graduated with distinction and a renewed sense of purpose.
From the very beginning, Selah approached her studies with passion and gratitude. The first year was filled with challenges, especially with online classes due to lingering Covid-19 restrictions. Learning how to write academic papers, conduct research, and manage assignments was a steep learning curve. But through persistence and support, she grew in confidence. It was also during this time that she discovered her calling to work in the field of pediatric psychology, focusing specifically on infants and young children.
In her second year, Selah took on even more responsibility. Not only did her academic workload increase, but she was also elected President of the Student Council. Balancing leadership duties with intense coursework was overwhelming, yet she remained committed to her vision. There were moments of personal struggle and emotional exhaustion, but Selah leaned on her faith and the encouragement of her team. She often wrote about her challenges and used her Psychology studies to reflect deeply on her own mental and emotional health. Through it all, she remained grounded in her purpose and committed to helping others.
By the time her final year arrived, Selah was preparing for graduation and also planning her wedding. Her schedule was packed with exams, a major research paper, group projects, and a practical fieldwork placement. As part of her final semester, she completed 70 hours of volunteer work at a home for abandoned babies. This experience had a profound impact on her. She was involved in day-to-day caregiving, created developmental resources, and even led a workshop for the staff on emotional resilience and coping strategies.
This hands-on experience confirmed her desire to pursue a Master's in Infant Mental Health. It gave her a deeper understanding of how early childhood care influences long-term development and further strengthened her commitment to supporting both children and caregivers.
Selah's story is one of perseverance, growth, and grace. She not only succeeded academically but also blossomed as a leader and a compassionate advocate for mental health. Her letters over the years reflect her deep faith, gratitude, and determination.
Today, she stands as a shining example of how support and opportunity can empower someone to rise above challenges and step into their calling.
The Joshua Generation Foundation is honored to have played a role in Selah’s journey. Her success is a reminder of the impact that education, mentorship, and faith can have on a life. We celebrate her achievements and look forward to seeing the incredible difference she will make in the world.
